Leaves are going to be your main issue this fall so make sure you know how to deal with them Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be spending time outside enjoying your yard and pool. Unfortunately, it means an uptick in the amount of cleaning you’ll have to do to your pool to keep it working into the extra innings of fall. If this is your first time keep your pool open past the prime summer months, we have a few fall pool cleaning tips to help keep the good times going.
Filtration System
Since your pool will be seeing less use during the cooler months, even if you do have a pool heater or heat pump, you don’t need to run your filtration system as much as you do during the regular season. Now’s the ideal time to clean your filter. All of the summer grime can be cleaned away and your filter will be in top shape for the extra debris that’s going to get into your pool this fall.
Leaf Removal
Fall got it’s name for a very good reason, and it’s one you’ll have to deal with until you decide it’s time to shut it down for the season. Thankfully, that old skimmer isn’t your only tool for removing leaves from your pool. A leaf rake is similar to a pool skimmer, but instead of just a flat screen a leaf rake has a basket to hold whatever it scoops up. Not only are they great for getting leaves off the surface of your pool, but they can grab the leaves that sink to the bottom, too.
Water Chemistry
It’s important to make sure you pool water is balanced during the fall since it isn’t being used as much, and you’re probably getting ready to close it for the season in a few weeks. A pH level of 7.2-7.6 and total alkalinity between 100-150 parts per million is the sweet spot.
