You definitely dont want that beautiful blue pool going cloudy with just a few weeks of summer left So, unfortunately, summer is winding down. We have just one calendar month left until the powers that be deem summer “over.” The end of what the calendar considers summer certainly doesn’t mean the heat’s going anywhere, though. All summer you’ve had beautiful, clear blue water to enjoy swimming in. Let’s make sure it stays that way and keep your pool from getting cloudy before it’s really time to pack it up. Here are the things you need to pay attention to to make sure your pool doesn’t get cloudy.
Proper pH
The right pH level for any pool is between 7.4 and 7.6. Just in case you don’t remember that chapter from high school chemistry, the pH scale goes from zero, most acidic, to 14, most basic. Your pool water needs to be just to the right of neutral to make sure the water isn’t hurting your filtering system if it’s too basic, or your eyes if it’s too acidic.
Accurate Alkalinity
Alkalinity should be between 100 and 150 parts per million (ppm). Cloudiness occurs when the alkalinity is too high, but too low and it can be difficult to regulate the pH level of your pool.
Correct Chlorine
Chlorine, as you probably know, is the chemical that keeps your pool clean by killing microorganisms. Keeping your chlorine between one and three parts per million is the best way to keep the water clean and clear.
Test Twice a Week
To make sure everything is where is should be, you should be checking your levels at least twice a week. If you’ve recently had an algae bloom or are recovering from a bout of cloudy water you might want to consider taking measurements more often, just as a safeguard against a relapse.
