Warm up by the fireplace while enjoying a magical outdoor movie night this fall Like it or not, the days are getting shorter and shorter. If you want to be an optimist, you can think of it as more time to spend outside on the patio without the threat of getting sunburnt. One of the best things you can do outside during autumn is host an outdoor movie night, but you’ll need the right space to pull it off.
Deck or Screened Porch
Making your deck into a movie theater is the natural choice. You have space to set up and sit far enough away from the screen that it’ll be a comfortable watch. Easy access to an outdoor grill and dining area makes a deck the perfect choice. Sky looking a little stormy? If you have a screened in porch it won’t be a problem.
Pergola or Gazebo
A pergola or gazebo makes for the perfect outdoor theater. It gives you a cozy setting and plenty of seating for everyone to relax and watch the movie. Since a pergola is rectangular it will be easier to set up a backdrop, but you’ll probably have to find somewhere outside of a gazebo to hang your backdrop since they are usually round.
Need a Backdrop?
If you have a pool fence and a white sheet, you have a movie screen. Just tie the sheet to the fence at the top and weigh it down at the bottom to keep a nice, taut, movie screen. Deck railings and pergola posts also make great anchors for your movie backdrop.
Keep Warm
It’s starting to get a little chilly at night, so you’ll need some way to keep you warm while enjoying your favorite flicks. An outdoor fireplace or fire pit is the best way to keep warm and add a great ambience to your yard. The softer light from a fire won’t distract from your movie the way other types of lights will, too.
